Privacy Policy
Tennd AI Ltd Privacy Policy
Effective date: 8 October 2026 | Last reviewed: 8 October 2026
This policy applies to the Tennd app (on the web at tenndai.com and on Android), the tenndai.com website, and any Tennd emails or notifications.
Our promise, in plain English
- Tennd is a private space for your family. We don't sell your data, and we don't show your family's messages, photos or stories to advertisers.
- Only the members of your family network can see what's shared in it.
- We use AI to help, for example to suggest gentle prompts and to write up family stories from your own words. Your family's stories, messages and memories are never used to train AI models without your separate, explicit permission.
- You can see, download, correct or delete your information. Just ask us.
- If you have any questions, email support@tenndai.com and a real person will reply.
The rest of this policy explains the detail.
1. Who we are
Tennd AI Ltd ("Tennd", "we", "us", "our") is a UK company that provides Tennd, a private app that helps families stay connected with an older relative through video calls, messages, photos, reminders and shared family stories.
Registered details
- Company name: Tennd AI Ltd
- Company number: 17415936 (registered in England and Wales)
- Registered office: 20-22 Wenlock Road, London, N1 7GU
- Website: www.tenndai.com
- Contact email: support@tenndai.com
- ICO registration number: C2053861
Tennd AI Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. We handle your personal information in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
2. How Tennd works, and who's who
Tennd is built around a family network:
- The focus is the older person at the centre of the network.
- Supporters are family members and close friends in the network. One or more supporters are admins who can invite people and manage the network.
Everything shared in a network (messages, photos, videos, voice notes, stories, reminders and activity) is visible only to members of that network. People outside your network, including other Tennd users, can't see it.
If you're setting up Tennd for someone else
Supporters often help an older relative get started. If you invite or set up a focus person:
- please make sure they understand what Tennd is and are happy to take part, or that you have the legal authority to act for them (for example, a Lasting Power of Attorney for health and welfare)
- they can contact us directly at any time about their information, whoever set up their account.
When the focus person first opens Tennd, we explain what's shared and who can see it, and ask them to confirm.
3. What information we collect
We collect information you give us, information created when you use Tennd, and a small amount of technical information.
A. Your account
- Name and email address
- Your role in a network (focus, supporter or admin) and which network(s) you belong to
We sign you in with a one-time link or code sent to your email. We don't ask you to create a password.
B. What your family shares
- Messages: text, photos, voice notes and short videos
- Quick Connect: selfies, short video clips ("vlogs") and voice notes sent to your network
- Check-ins: for example, a focus person letting the family know they're up and about
- Reactions: for example, hearts on stories
C. Video calls
- To connect calls, we process who is calling whom and when, plus the live audio and video while the call is happening.
- We do not record calls.
- For group calls (for example, a community coffee morning), guests who join by invitation link give a display name. They don't need a Tennd account.
D. Tennd Stories
- The photos you choose for a story
- Your answers to the story questions. You record these as voice notes; we convert them to text. We keep the text, not the audio recording.
- The finished story text, any narrated audio version, and any historical archive photos added with your approval
- Who created the story, and which network it belongs to
Stories often contain personal details about family members, including people who are not Tennd users (for example, a grandparent who has died). Please only share what you're comfortable sharing within your network.
E. Reminders
- Reminders that a network admin sets up for the focus person (for example, "Morning tablets", "GP appointment", "Sarah's birthday"), when they're due, and whether the focus person has confirmed them.
- Please note: reminders are a simple prompt. Tennd is not a medical device for managing medication or health conditions, and it doesn't check whether medication has actually been taken.
- Because reminders can mention health matters (such as medication or appointments), they may include health information, which the law treats as a special category of data. See section 5.
F. Activity and the Garden
- A record of activity in your network (for example, messages sent, calls made, reminders confirmed, stories shared). This is shown in your family's activity feed.
- The Garden Score: a simple indicator of how connected your network has been recently, shown as a garden image. It's calculated from activity levels, not from the content of your messages or any health information.
G. AI-assisted features
Some features use AI to help, including:
- gentle prompts and suggestions to stay in touch
- a summary or digest of recent family activity
- turning story answers into a written story, suggesting a follow-up question, and suggesting relevant historical photos
- converting voice recordings to text, and reading stories aloud.
To do this, the relevant content (for example, your story answers) is sent securely to the AI service providers listed in section 6, which process it on our behalf and return the result. See section 7 for how we control this.
H. Device and technical information
- Basic technical data needed to run the service securely: for example, IP address, browser or device type, operating system and app version, and error logs.
- Android app:
- camera and microphone access, only when you use features that need them (calls, Quick Connect, voice answers)
- a notification token so we can send you notifications (for example, an incoming call or a new message), if you allow notifications. Notifications never include the content of a message or a reminder (for example, "New message from Sarah" or "You have a reminder"), so nothing private shows on your lock screen.
- Cookies and similar storage that keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, or any analytics or tracking tools.
I. Information about other people
When you invite someone, you give us their email address so we can send the invitation. When you share content, it may contain information about other people. Please only invite people and share content you're comfortable sharing, and respect your family's wishes.
J. When you contact us
If you email us, we keep your message and our reply so we can help you.
4. Who Tennd is for
Tennd is for adults aged 18 and over. It isn't designed for children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has created an account, please contact us and we'll delete it.
5. Why we use your information, and our legal basis
| What we do | Legal basis under UK GDPR |
|---|---|
| Provide Tennd: your account, your network, messages, calls, Quick Connect, stories, reminders, notifications | Contract: necessary to provide the service you've signed up for |
| Use AI features to generate prompts, digests, stories and transcripts | Contract (they are part of the service), and explicit consent where content includes health information (see below) |
| Process health information in reminders, and in stories where it appears | Explicit consent (Article 9(2)(a) UK GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time, though some features won't work without it. We ask for this consent in the app (from the focus person, and from any supporter before they add a reminder) and keep a record of it. |
| Keep Tennd secure, prevent misuse, fix problems | Legitimate interests: running a safe, reliable service |
| Improve Tennd using activity statistics (for example, which features are used) | Legitimate interests. We use aggregated or de-identified data wherever possible |
| Send service emails (sign-in codes, invitations, important account notices) | Contract |
| Send optional news or updates about Tennd | Consent. Only if you opt in; unsubscribe at any time |
| Keep records we're legally required to keep, respond to lawful requests | Legal obligation |
Automated decisions
We don't make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects. The Garden Score and AI prompts are gentle, informational features for your family; they don't decide anything about you.
6. Who we share information with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We don't share your family's content with advertisers.
We use trusted service providers ("processors") who handle data only on our instructions and under contracts that require them to keep it secure:
| Provider | What they do for us | Where data may be processed |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in, file storage and server functions: where Tennd's data is stored | EU (Ireland) |
| Vercel | Hosts the Tennd web app and website | Global network; US company |
| Cloudflare | Domain name and security services | Global network; US company |
| Daily.co | Video calling | US and global network |
| Anthropic | AI model used for prompts, digests and story writing | US |
| Google Cloud | Speech-to-text (voice answers) and text-to-speech (story narration) | Global; US company |
| Google Firebase Cloud Messaging | Delivering notifications to the Android app | Global; US company |
| Google Workspace | Sending sign-in and service emails; our support inbox | Global; US company |
| Google Play | Distributing the Android app | Global |
| Europeana | Searching public archive collections for historical photos for stories. We send short search terms (for example, a place and decade), not your story text or personal details | EU |
We may also share information:
- if required by law, court order or a regulator
- to protect the safety of a person, or to prevent fraud or abuse
- with professional advisers (for example, lawyers or accountants) under confidentiality
- if Tennd AI Ltd is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case your information would remain protected by this policy and we would tell you first.
International transfers
Some providers are based in, or process data in, the United States or other countries outside the UK. They process your information under data processing terms that include approved safeguards for international transfers, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or, for certified organisations, the UK–US Data Bridge. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards.
7. AI and your data
- No training on your family's content. We do not use your family's stories, messages, contributions or memories to train AI models, ours or anyone else's, unless you give separate, explicit, opt-in permission, which you can withdraw at any time. We use AI providers whose business terms do not allow them to use our customers' data to train their models, and we have turned off optional data sharing and logging where providers offer it.
- Your words stay your words. AI-written stories are based only on what your family has said. They are shown to you before being shared, and can be edited.
- No impersonation. Tennd's AI never pretends to be a member of your family, living or deceased.
- AI can make mistakes. Please check AI-generated content before relying on it.
8. How long we keep your information
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account details | While your account is open. Deleted within 30 days of you deleting your account or asking us to |
| Messages, photos, videos and voice notes shared in a network | While the network exists, unless deleted sooner by the sender or an admin. If you delete your account, messages you sent stay with your family, shown as from "a former member", unless you ask us to remove specific items |
| Stories and family contributions | While the network exists. As stories belong to the whole family, if you leave or delete your account, stories you created stay with the family, shown as from "a former member", unless you ask us to remove specific items. |
| Voice recordings for story answers | Not kept. Sent for conversion to text, and only the text is kept; the recording itself is never stored |
| Reminders and confirmations | While the network exists, or until deleted by an admin |
| Technical and security logs | Up to 90 days |
| Support emails | Up to 3 years |
| Backups | We don't currently keep separate backup copies of your information. If we add backups, we'll update this policy and keep them for no longer than 30 days |
If a family asks us to close their network, we'll confirm with its admins, offer them a copy, then delete its shared content.
9. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access: ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- Rectification: ask us to correct information that's wrong or incomplete
- Erasure: ask us to delete your information
- Restrict processing: ask us to pause using your information in certain circumstances
- Object: object to us using your information on the basis of legitimate interests
- Data portability: ask for your information in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent: where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To use any of these rights, email support@tenndai.com. We'll respond within one month. There's no charge. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
Shared family content: some content belongs to the whole network (for example, a story several people contributed to). When you ask us to delete or export information, we'll handle your own information fully, and talk to you about shared content so that we respect both your rights and those of other family members.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
10. Deleting your account
You can delete your Tennd account:
- in the app: open Account & privacy (from Settings if you support a family member, or the link at the bottom of your home screen if you're the person your family supports), then tap Delete my account, or
- by email: send a request from your account email to support@tenndai.com. Instructions are also at www.tenndai.com/delete-account.
When you delete your account, we delete your account details and personal information within 30 days, except where we need to keep something for legal reasons. Content you shared in a family network is handled as described in section 8.
11. Cookies and local storage
Tennd uses essential cookies and similar browser or app storage to keep you signed in and make the service work. These are necessary and can't be switched off without stopping Tennd from working.
We don't use advertising or analytics cookies, and we don't use cookies to track you across other websites.
12. How we protect your information
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including:
- encryption in transit (HTTPS)
- access controls so that only members of a network can see its content
- restricted staff access
- trusted, security-certified providers.
No system is completely secure. If we become aware of a data breach that's likely to affect you, we'll tell you and the ICO where required by law.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Tennd develops, for example when we add new features. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
